5 Ways to Make Your New Home More Comfortable

When you move into a new house, after building the perfect home with Schaeffer Homes, it can take a while before you really settle in. You need time to find a place for your belongings, work out an interior design strategy, and get to know your local neighborhood. But if, after a few weeks, you still don’t feel quite at home, you might need to make some changes.

The comfort level of your new abode is really important. You want to be able to settle down in the evening and relax. And you can’t do this if your mind and body aren’t at ease. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to make your house feel more cozy. Here are five tips to get you started.

Paint the walls

The color of your home’s interior plays a huge role in creating the right mood in your home, and choosing the right shade can massively heighten the comfort levels, as can hiring a professional residential painter to do the job right. Opt for bright, bold colors like yellow and orange if you want a room to feel vibrant and upbeat, while lighter, pastel shades of blue, green and pink can create a sense of tranquility and calm. You can even opt for different colors in different parts of the house to suit your needs, perhaps opting for a gentle color in your study and livelier ones in your living room.

Furnish appropriately

Your furnishings and furniture are the most effective way to make your home more comfortable. When you’re lying in bed or chilling on the sofa you want to feel safe and warm. Don’t be afraid to splash out on a more extravagant piece of furniture if you feel it will make the difference. Long L-shaped couches are great for relaxing with the whole family, and a good-quality memory foam mattress is one of the best investments you can make.

Maintain the right temperature

You don’t ever want to feel too hot or too cold in your house, so it’s important you are able to maintain the right temperature at all times. In summer, this might mean installing air conditioning or strategically placing fans throughout your home and ensuring good airflow. In winter, you will want to make sure your home is well insulated. You could even consider installing underfloor heating or an inbuilt fireplace to maximize warmth.

Add personal touches

A huge part of feeling comfortable is psychological. No matter how warm your home is and how soft your furnishings may be, you will never be truly relaxed until you feel at home. One fast way to achieve this sensation is by adding a few personal touches. Fill your home with photos of loved ones, souvenirs from your travels, and artwork created by your kids. Your family’s presence will always fill your home and make you feel as though this is where you are meant to be.

Give it time

If you aren’t feeling relaxed in your new home right away, don’t worry. You may just need to give it a bit more time. When you first move into a new place, you can often sense the presence of the previous owners, leaving you feeling a little adrift and unsettled. But after a few weeks or months of making the house your own, you will eventually start to feel comfortable.
