When Mom Goes Down: Gratitude in the Middle of the Chaos
God has a funny way of helping us slow down. Especially this time of year, it’s so easy to get swept away with the hustle and bustle of the season. That’s exactly where I was this past weekend!
We had just hosted our annual Christmas gathering for Matt’s colleagues, most of the Christmas shopping was complete, and I was finally starting to feel like I was just about ready for the holiday ahead … as long as I got the next 20 things on my to do list complete. And, then the next day, wamo. I was forced to rest with a nasty stomach bug.
Everything came to a halt. All the Christmas planning, decorating, gift curating, work, emails, running errands – all of it! And, from there, I was a sleeping, groggy, dehydrated, and unhelpful mom and spouse … and still am, as of 11:30 AM Tuesday.
My sweet husband, Matt, was then tasked with picking up all the household routines, grocery shopping, meal prep, cleaning, laundry, and not to mention, all the kids’ homework, being the chauffeur to activities, and school pick up and drop off.
Through this humbling experience, I was reminded of a few funny ways that God is always watching over us. I’m very much still recovering, but this is my first attempt at getting back into the swing of things, and I hope you’ll enjoy this little read of what I’m grateful for this week.
As I slow down and reflect on the real meaning of the season this year, I’m especially grateful for …
Downtime
Even though it wasn’t planned, didn’t come at the most ideal time, and I still have plenty more to do, the slow down, and downtime that I’ve had a chance to take in the last couple of days has been a nice reprieve. I’ve so enjoyed getting to take a back seat to all the running around, and {mostly} unnecessary errands that are high on the to do list this time of year.
Time With The Kids
I’m always up for a date night with Matt, and a little break from our kiddos. But, these past couple of days when I’ve been sequestered to our room, away from the kids, has made my heart yearn for much-needed time with each of them. I can’t wait to catch up on our snuggles when I’m fully recovered and germ-free.
Our Business
So very grateful for our design business that allows me to work from home, curating beautiful home designs for our amazing clients, all while not spreading any of my germs with you. 🙂
My Hubby
If you know him, you already know why I’m grateful for him. He’s the hardest working man I know – at work, and at home. The at home piece was definitely tested this week with me being horizontal. I cannot thank Matt enough for taking on all of the responsibilities for our kids, and our home during such a hectic season. He did it with grace and ease, all while making sure I was being well cared for. What a guy!
And, Especially Grateful for …
I’m especially grateful for all of you. Yes, you. Who have stuck around until the end. Who have read this blog, and maybe others of mine. Your love, support, and care for our family and our business means the world. Keep showing up. I see you, and I feel your love.
Thanks for reading! Wishing you all a great, healthy week ahead. I hope this quick read can serve as a reminder that even though it’s such a busy time, that slowing down, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying your time together is truly the reason for the season.
