Here are some tried and true go-to home accessories that we love using in our own home at Nest with the Nelsons headquarters, and some great options we recommend to our wonderful clients, too. Ready for this lineup?!

As an interior designer, I can seriously not get enough of a killer area rug! Here are some quick guidelines to make this a top tier go-to home accessories, but there are some rules to follow. Listen up!
Area rugs are amazing — but only if they are implemented in your home correctly. Here’s what you need to know:
- Buy the appropriate size of rug. Go big or go home here. Too often, I see clients purchasing ill-sized rugs that are far too small for their space. Those tiny rugs then make your space feel smaller, too. No thank you!
- Pattern is queen! When selecting a rug, the pattern should be clean, classic, and completely true to your natural style. Don’t go for trendy here, as rugs are long-lasting, investment pieces that should be cherished and repurposed throughout the years.
- Material is also important, and a big consideration when determining the right rug for you. Take into account where the rug will be placed, and how much traffic that particular area of your home receives. Sturdier, and even indoor/outdoor rugs might be the right choice for you — depending on the location of the rug.
2. Pillows + Throws, Yes Please!
Don’t underestimate the power of pillows and throws when refreshing your personal home accessories. They make an incredible difference, and truly can set the tone for the overall vibe of your home.
Some ideas to make the look work in your own home:
- Select fabrics that are durable, yet meet your own personal style. The nice thing about pillows and throws is that they can easily be changed out throughout the year, and depending on the seasons.
- We love pulling in chunky, knotted throws in the fall and winter, and lighter, more delicate throws in the spring.
- Pillows follow the same overall look, material, and patterns used — all appropriate for the time of year.
3. Home Accessories are Your New Best Friends
So many times, clients will say they are minimalists. They want clean, tidy homes. That is wonderful! As your go-to interior designer, I want your home to feel clean with sleek lines, but I also want it to feel like someone actually lives in your home.
