And, that’s a wrap! Reflections from our Stellar Summer Interior Design Intern
From May to August, I had the amazing opportunity to intern with Nest with the Nelsons. Not only does her business cover a wide variety of designs, but she provides a welcoming feeling that made me feel at home. This summer, we accomplished so much for the business. This ranged from meetings with clients to launching and perfecting three new sites! With such an outstanding learning opportunity, I wanted to share my experience!
The Beginning
When I first met with Megan, I really did not know what to expect. Interior designers have such a wide variety of days. Some days require meetings all day, whereas others require hours of sourcing products. What I loved about my summer with Megan was the diversity. I was able to join her in meetings that weren’t directly related to design which was so eye opening. It taught me that being a design business owner requires more than people really think. I attended a google meet that gave me insight to SEO (search engine optimization). As much as I loved the design aspect, the side quests and informational meetings were beyond helpful.
New Services
One of the big projects we tackled this summer included launching an Amazon storefront, perfecting a Nest with the Nelson’s Pinterest Page, and officially launching Nelson’s Nook. The Amazon Storefront is not only linked through the Nest with the Nelson’s Pinterest page, but it provides a wide variety of products. These product categories include lighting, décor, throw pillows/blankets, window treatment, and so many more! What I love about this new addition to the company is the ability for Megan to share her favorite products. The Pinterest page is connected to her ShopMY page which has a multitude of high-end, pieces of furniture that wouldn’t typically be bought on Amazon. In addition to aiding me in the launch of these services, Megan launched a mini business, Nelson’s Nook, that offers smaller services for smaller spaces! It was such a blast to get all of this up and running. I am excited to see where it takes Megan and her company!
Design Work
Another great aspect I loved about this summer was Megan’s trust in me with clients and projects. Many times, she would ask for my opinion or just hand me the reins! It was an incredible way to share my thoughts about design while thinking of the client! I was introduced to DesignFiles, the software that contains a communication style with the client while being able to edit your ideas! I was also shown the great handful of design/product websites! This really broadened my thought process of sourcing.
Overall, I had an outstanding experience with Megan and Nest with the Nelsons! She is a great designer to work with as a client but also as a coworker. I am so blessed to have been able to share my summer with her and learn all about the way her business rolls! I highly recommend any chance to work with Nest with the Nelsons as they will provide a genuine experience!
