The Top 3 House Jobs to Get Done in January

January. The month of the blues, incredibly cold winter evenings, and when Christmas and New Year start to become a bit of a distant memory. It’s a time of year when people seem to either feel more motivated than ever before. Or, they feel simply exhausted and like they’ve never been so tired in their lives.

But either way, there’s still a lot to get done around the house! And to make sure both camps of people can find the time and energy to get things done, we’ve made a little list of the top 3 jobs to tackle this month. Even if you don’t get that deep clean done, you’ll still have made some great progress. Just ticking these items off the to-do list is an achievement.

Wash Your Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings can go unnoticed when it comes to laundry. You wash your clothes, bed sheets, and towels on a regular basis.

But now we’re in January, your curtains, cushion covers, and even the seat covers off of dining chairs deserve to be free of dust and grease too.

Check for washing instructions on the labels, especially in the case of your curtains, as they may be dry clean only. But if they aren’t, you’re usually safe to pop them all in the washing machine on a light cycle.

Get the Garden Cleared

Yes, January is the perfect time to get the garden cleared up!

Don’t wait until the spring to clear out the broken branches, leaf piles, animal waste, and anything else that’s been blown in during October, November, and December.

Try to get at least half of this cleared out by the end of January. It’ll help the garden breathe again.

Check on Your Attic Insulation

How long has it been since you assessed your attic? Probably a good while, right? Well, it’s time to go and check on your insulation. Now we’re in the new year, you don’t want the upcoming cold snaps to make your house feel more frozen than it actually is outside.

Head up to the attic, clear the boxes, bags, and old items out of the way, and have a good look around the walls.

You’re looking for signs of entry here, whether a pest has gnawed its way in or an errant DIY mistake meant there’s been a hole there for a while. Both can be problematic for the state of your attic’s insulation. You certainly need to know if something is living in the walls!

And if you’re thinking about skipping this job, don’t! Attic insulation is an essential part of your home’s structural integrity. If there’s a problem with it, you’ll want to get in touch with an attic insulation company immediately.

Remember, good insulation traps ambient temperature, and that’s whatever you set it to be. That’ll make a big difference to how cool it is in summer!

Have a to-do list for January, but can’t quite work through it? Just focus on the most important jobs.
