Whenever my husband and I see a home listed nearby, you can almost guarantee we’ll be walking through the next open house. Partly because we love beautiful homes…but mostly because we’re endlessly curious about how people live, design, and make a house their own.

This weekend, we toured a home just down the street. While we were there, we struck up a conversation with the listing agent. As we chatted, I mentioned that I’m the owner and lead designer at Nest with the Nelsons Interior Design Studio.

Her response stopped me in my tracks.

She smiled and said something along the lines of:

“Homeowners are looking for interior designers who feel … real.”

Not intimidating.

Not unapproachable.

Honestly? That conversation was exactly the reminder I needed.
