We’re Seeing Red in a New Way
I don’t know about you, but I am completely thrilled that it finally feels like fall here in Omaha. Fall is my all-time favorite time of year. The crisp air, seasonal scents, and beautiful colors in nature reinvigorate me personally, professionally, and just bring me so much joy.
I haven’t shared this much publicly–only with small groups, close friends and family. But, to be honest, this summer with our interior design studio was slow. It wasn’t at a stand still by any means. We had a few amazing clients we had a chance to work with in transforming their homes. But, it was much slower with new client intake than we had ever experienced before.
Slow Season, New Thoughts
This slower season allowed me to collaborate with business owners in a new way, take time to seek out new vendors to share with our clients, reimagine and fine-tune processes, and kickstart some new initiatives. It also made me think of our offerings in a new light.
So, as we step into a season, we have some exciting news to share. Just earlier this month, I was offered an opportunity to work part-time with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as their Interior Designer for Student Life. What?! YES!!!
Two Things I Never Thought I’d Say
Let’s be real – there are two things that are true here. Growing up, I never thought I’d be an interior designer. Not that I wouldn’t have thought I could hack it. But, interior design was not a profession I was aware of growing up in small-town Nebraska. A magazine editor, marketing agency lead, graphics guru – sure. Those all made sense based on my studies and skillset. But an interior designer for the University of Nebraska System? Not so much. On top of that, after a long-time career, and earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I never thought UNL would be in my vocabulary.
But, here we are, and I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to work with amazing colleagues transforming and reimagining spaces on campus in study nooks to dining centers. And, I could not be more excited to kickstart my first project – a sizable refresh to the building where I office to reinvigorate the UNL brand in a big way, and enhance the overall student experience while we’re at it.

Are you still leading Nest with the Nelsons? You bet I am, sister! While my schedule certainly looks different, our offerings, stunning designs, and stellar customer service have not changed a bit. Infact, having the opportunity to see these large scale university projects has given me a new lens to view and explore the world of design. And, I’m so glad you’re here for it!
