Why You Should Work with an Interior Designer

By: Megan Healy, Strategic Communications and Brand Management Intern, Nest with the Nelsons

In the beginning or even halfway through a redesign project, the lingering thought of “should I have asked for backup?” always creeps in. I’ll be the first to say that backup is never a bad idea. If you’re committed to a project and willing to put your trust in a professional, interior designers will make sure you come out on top. Obviously, we know they will help the room look better, but what are the specific reasons to lean on an interior designer? Look no further, below we have some great reasons for you to reach out and finally finish that room you’ve been wanting to redesign.

Save Money
While at first it can seem like an interior designer may be an expense you’re not willing to make, it can actually save you more money in the long run! People tend to count out interior designers because they think this is a project they can do themselves. This can be true for the little projects and those with more experience, but for the rest of us, we end up needing all the help we can get. Interior designers bring a set of tools to the table you probably didn’t even think of. Their extensive knowledge of home design trends, where to get the most for your money, and how to design a home exactly to your liking is what makes an interior designer so great.

Save Time
Interior designers also help you save time. Once you begin your home renovation, you realize just how many details are included in this project. Interior designers are experts at organizing a plan for every room you’re renovating, along with back-up plans and other options in case you had something else in mind. All of this stays within your budget, too! That is the most important part, as sometimes during the process of picking out designs and furniture we tend to make exceptions for the more expensive items, and can easily run off course of our original budget. The best part is that interior designers may even come in under your budget, allowing you extra room to purchase items you never even knew you wanted. If you’re ready to spend the money on a new room, you might as well bring in the experts!

An Outside Perspective Always Helps
With any creative project, it’s always good to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. This allows you to stay focused on the entirety of the project and not get too wrapped up in some of the little details. Sometimes, though, this isn’t enough, and you need to bring in a fresh set of eyes. Interior designers are there to help you on your journey and ensure that the idea in your head is brought to life in the most efficient way possible.

A second opinion is just one more thing you can use to ensure that your dream room comes together just the way you imagined it. Many times, while designing a room, we tend to work from a looks-based perspective, recreating a room you absolutely loved on Pinterest or in a magazine. That second opinion from an interior designer will make sure that the room is both beautiful and functional, so when all is said and done, you can actually use {and love!} the room you invested your money and time on.

Experience
It’s bound to happen. Along the way, you’re going to run into problems you didn’t even know existed, and that’s okay! Try not to be discouraged from this as it happens to everyone, even interior designers. The catch is interior designers have enough experience to know exactly how to move forward. Thinking ahead is their specialty, and this includes providing several options for a room design instead of being tied down to one exact look. Sometimes we love a design so much we don’t allow ourselves to look at anything else. With experience on their side, interior designers will say that it is the design we never considered that can sometimes be the winning number.

Interior designers have a vast knowledge of just about everything within their industry. This includes adding to the resale value of your home when it’s time for you to move or maybe you’re just in the market. They’ll implement timeless trends that work for everyone all while creating rooms that work perfectly for you and your family. So, what are you waiting for? It’s a new year, and it’s never too late to reach out!
