How to Create a Functional and Stylish Garage Space
A garage used to really just be a place to store a car but nowadays it’s turned into something more than that with most households. From additional storage spaces to DIY workshops and even extra bedrooms or living spaces. If your home has a garage attached to it - or detached - then there are a number of opportunities worth taking advantage of.

With that being said, here are some helpful tips to create a functional and stylish garage space for your home.

Insulate and make your garage space livable
If you’re looking to add an extra room to the property, then the garage space can be a useful area to take advantage of.

Insulating and making your garage a liveable space is definitely something that is doable but might require professional services to make it a success. From insulating the walls to leveling the floor and adding the necessary flooring to keep it warm, there are a number of steps you’ll need to take before you make an additional space in your home that’s liveable like a garage.

You may also want to add windows as most garages won’t come with a window to begin with. Removing the garage door is worthwhile, especially as it might prove to be drafty if you leave it in. Instead, you may want to brick it up fully, replacing it with a proper front door or door attached to the hallway or internal part of the home.

Add in cabinets
If you’re looking to make the most out of your wall space, then it’s a good idea to add some cabinets to the garage, regardless of what you plan to do with the room.

With cabinets, you provide additional storage space so that you can still have a room that functions as something more than just a place to store your excess belongings.

These could be stylish cabinets to accompany an extended kitchen area. You could add some integrated cabinets and closet spaces if you’re planning to make the garage into an extra bedroom. Cabinets are great for making use of a space that you plan to do DIY in too or use as a working office if you work from home for part or all of the working week.

Upgrade your garage door
If you’re not planning to use the garage space as an additional room, it’s a good idea to look at ways in which you could upgrade your garage door. You might not want to get rid of the garage door completely but it’s worthwhile seeing what upgrades are possible, especially if you want to insulate it and make it more habitable as a space.

There are lots of newer models of garage doors now that are designed to keep in the heat for longer and hopefully make it a more enjoyable temperature without also compromising the rest of the home’s heating.

It might be a simple case of getting a same day garage door repair if the garage door is still in good condition in general.

Eliminate the clutter
Clutter is something that often finds its way into your garage space and it’s worthwhile sorting through the junk and rubbish before working on the garage itself.

Eliminating the clutter can be a tough task, especially when you’re faced with years of clutter to sort through. That’s why it’s a good idea to involve any family members who also have clutter in the space. That way, it helps to whittle down the job so that you can get it cleared and sorted sooner.

Get a workbench
workbench is a great benefit for any garage space and can really help those who enjoy making their own furniture or decor around the home. It also serves as a space where you can fix things and do work that needs doing around the home, in a space that’s not cramped nor is in the way of other family members.

With that being said, invest in a quality workbench so that it makes life easier for those who enjoy DIY around the home.

Create zones for multifunctional garages
If the garage space is being made use of for multiple activities, then it’s worth creating zones in the garage where possible. From a reading nook to a shelving full of storage cabinets, there’s a way of sectioning out the garage so that it can serve you and your household in many ways.

Make use of the advantages that a garage space can bring with these top tips.
